blather: one-handed typing (and not in a good way)

well kids, just got home from the ER after 5 fun-filled hours (some of them strapped to a backboard. and I have to say: since when don't the EMTs take your word for it that you didn't injure your neck?)

see, I tanked the bike hitting a pothole at the bottom of one of our steepish hills. major crash up.  I had to straighten out my own busted finger right after--easier than it sounds since it wasn't hurting yet, just looked wrong and I couldn't feel it and the kanked nature of it squicked me so i just grabbed it and pulled it straight again.  aiii!  I felt like Ranger!Jim for all of ten seconds until the pain hit.

other than the broken finger, the road rash and various mongo bruises and strained muscles, I'm in pretty good shape. but this will put the kibosh on the F/K story I was working on.  one-handed typing sucks!  still, i've got some great fodder for my next ER scene.

my boss is going to kill me--I'm the fourth person with a break to fingers/hand in the last 2 months, and we're a software company.  they pay me to type, goddammit.

signed,
up shit creek

*totally squicked* Ouch. Since you are here to type the tale I'm assuming you feeling a little better. Take care of yourself, okay? *hugs*

Aw, you poor thing! I broke my hand a few months ago on a snowmobile, and my boss was none too happy with me either.

Take care of yourself! We'll set up a system. Just hold down the X key if you need porn while you heal.

Ouch!

You straightened up for busted finger ... ouch. God! I broke all fingers of my left hand - not at the same time, mind you - so I can feel your pain.

Take care!

O_o

Isn't that always the way? We do what we have to do -- treat the injury -- then feel it later. But afterward -- ouch, indeed! Here's to a quick and relatively pain-free recovery.

since when don't the EMTs take your word for it that you didn't injure your neck?

I've never dealt with EMTs, but I would guess -- never? If the patient is right, but they still check for injury, patient has lost some time. If the patient is wrong, but they believe the assertion and don't check, patient may end up disabled or even dead from a hidden injury.

As for the boss -- after the pain subsides, you may be able to still use two or three fingers of the injured hand for typing. It'll slow you down as you consciously direct alternate fingers to various letters, but it'll be better than one hand. Good luck.

Ack! Ow! *flails in freaked-out sympathy*

Poor baby! Did you get yourself to the ER or did somebody take you? Did the bike get smooshed?

Oh, four weeks at least. And you can't imagine how important your pinkie is until it's all wrapped up and useless ...
