yes, the idea that Blair would have done it anyway is something that's been kicking around in my head for a long, long time. because I have always perceived that act (the press conference) differently from what I've seen in fanon.
I can conceive of no way in which Blair could ever publish with Jim as the sole informant while living and working with him. Jim's concern in that regard was totally legitimate. Blair was totally deluding himself, and when he says to Naomi, in the final ep, that he now knows the real brass ring, (I'm paraphrasing) *that's* when the reality hit him. so the way I see Blair, he's not the kind of person who could let that stand. to my mind, the press conference wasn't about his love for Jim at all. it was about Blair's integrity, and he has that in spades. it's about his belief in karma, and wanting to carry forward a just life.
