Hey guys:
Happy New Year! I made a holiday F/K vid. Kind of Fraser-centric
because of the way the eps looped into the lyrics.

Date: 2008-01-01 09:47 pm (UTC)What a gorgeous song, so perfect for New Year's Day. What a great way to start off the year. I love the whole vid so much. I don't know where to start in commenting! I think I need to see it again, first. I know I'll be watching it often.
But here's a start: I adored that the buddy-breathing scene is set to the line "take these words"--I just LOVED that. It's not air, it's words he's giving him? So evocative.
Eeeeee! This vid is an absolute delight! AND it has puppies! I'm filled with joy. Thank you so much for making this and sharing it with all of us. {{{HUGS}}}

Date: 2008-01-01 10:48 pm (UTC)Fraser's integrity in a shabby world just shines.
Or, "so shines a woobie deed in a weary world..." :) sorry, your icon always makes me woobifiy everything.
If you need loaner disks, let me know. I have a set I mail around. Not that I'm pimping, no sir, because we need your talent over on TS.

Thank you for the lovely note, JS. I was nervous bout posting a vid. They're so damed tricky. But I already have an idea for a new one.
*puppies you* happy new year, my dear friend.

Date: 2008-01-01 10:59 pm (UTC)Come to think of it, at the same time, I was watching One West Waikiki and loving THAT and not knowing a decade later I'd be drooling over RB.
So in some ways, I'm an old fan of dS and in others green as grass :-)

just dropping off some fb, 'k?
Date: 2008-01-02 05:15 am (UTC)First off, yes, it's a Fraser vid, but I'm incoherent with love for Ray with glasses (0:40). So I guess, here I decided to engage for real *g*?
"So take these words" and Fraser punching that guy (0:52) struck me (heh) as quite powerful.
And "tonight's the night, that the world begins again" and I was all where is Ray *impatient face*, clearly I am not mature enough an audience for this vid, and this is too subtle for me; but then there he is \o/ as the goes-without-saying round-up of that part. Lovely.
"Someplace simple, where we can live" was kinda obvious, but of the best kind, huh? *has warm canada-induced thoughts*
Erm excuse me, but just where exactly is Fraser pointing that rifle? At Dief? *mutters incredulously* That, I do not get.
The third time (I think) "take these words" + buddy-breathing = very much ftw, especially after "this endless fight".
I'm loving the last shot.
Since I kind of misplaced my analysis-hat this is as in-depth as it's gonna get, right now. Thanks very much for sharing!

yes, Fraser is about to shoot at Dief. Fraser saves the kid (Willy) from going to juvie in "Free Willy", and in a later ep the kid saves Dief from being intentionally killed by Fraser (it's an incredible ep, really, and very revealing of Fraser's character, but it's season one so if you've never seen RayV eps, you wouldn't have seen it.) I guess the point is--by saving the boy, Fraser saves himself, ultimately.
Re: just dropping off some fb, 'k?
Date: 2008-01-02 05:48 am (UTC)Yes. That. Very much that.
re: Dief
Ah, and then there was context, and then it made, you know, sense *g*. Thanks. (I watched/am watching dS very much out of order, and the deeper I sank/am sinking into the fandom, the more ckr there is, which is good, I applaud that *nodnod*, and the more I have to re-watch S3 and S4 episodes over and over and over again, it's a rule. So I haven't watched that one yet. Must rectify).
Re: just dropping off some fb, 'k?
Date: 2008-01-02 06:03 am (UTC)The Dief ep is called Wild Bunch and I think it's on the first couple of disks.
Yeah, context. :) I'm not a very good vidder--I rely a lot on people knowing eps, but a really good vidder can, I think, make it work at the same time for someone who's never even seen a show. (e.g., I saw an SGA vid at BASCon that knocked my freakin' socks off, and I've never seen a single ep.) I just can't think that many ways at once and still make the damned timing fit.
Re: just dropping off some fb, 'k?
Date: 2008-01-02 06:30 am (UTC)Oi! Are, too. This was extremely beautiful, you sayin' I have no taste?
About the context-thing (I was trying to make the point, that I'm not such a good fan, obviously, not not not what you said).
But context. I find it fascinating and am not at all of the opinion, that "a good vidder ..." etc, what you said. Because on the one hand, the clips are just, what they physically are, yes, while they of course, on the other hand, carry all their canon- and fandom-induced extra meanings. How on earth would one fit all of that under one hat? The sga-vid, that knocked your socks off (which was? If you wouldn't mind sharing), are you sure, you had the exact same reading of it, as die-hard fans of the show? Didn't think so :).
You as the vidder here have very little (ok, no) choice in, what your viewers bring to the table context-wise, obviously. I do not at all feel, that you have any kind of obligation to cater to anyone you don't feel like catering to.
Re: just dropping off some fb, 'k?
Date: 2008-01-02 09:14 pm (UTC)I guess I think the highest vid art would reach fans on a different level from non-fans, but still reach the non-fans strongly...but yeah, somehow fitting it all under one hat. I think it takes extraordinary skill.
The SGA vid was "My Brilliant Idea (I Could Be In Love With Someone Like You)" artist Jason Robert Brown vidder Lim
(pasted from the handout. I don't know Lim's URL but I bet I can get it from Morgan Dawn.

Date: 2008-01-05 07:50 pm (UTC)The cuts were great, too, and you kept up a nice rhythm and pace to work with the song. It's a very strong vid with a clear and organized central theme/message, and I liked it very much. Wow, you are really rocking multimedia participation in fandom lately! And now there's artwork to go with your fic! *loves*
