Date: 2008-03-06 11:51 pm (UTC)If you mean the harried art student, I am hanging in there by my charcoal-stained fingernails. :) Drawing a human torso (from a plaster cast) and two nude figures (from photos) this week, all female (*yawn*). Actually it's not boring at all, and it is stressful for me, because I want everything to be perfect. But we only draw about 1 male figure to 4 female ones, at best, and I dislike that ratio. I want to study male figures, dammit.
Beyond fanart, I have great ambitions to portray passive, reclining male figures as Odalisques and concubines and self-hating fashion models, and so on. I want to turn the cultural imagery on its ear. Unfortunately, I'll need a lot of technical knowledge and experience and practice before I am able to communicate that social commentary. At present, fanfic (and fanart) will have to do. :)
We're drawing from pretty much ONE male model and about three different female models. All young and stunning, though, which is nice. The guy is a Fraser-type more than a Ray-type, but very cute, and, heh, perky. Read between the lines there. ;) I do, however, have a good library of reference photos that includes more Ray-esque figures, and among those are some porn stars who posed for portraits. *cough* *cough*
