You have done such a job on me with this story that instead of getting ready for bed (which, don't laugh, I get up really early), I felt compelled to boot up the laptop again with further observations.

Something that didn't hit me until just now was the implications of two things Ray says. First, if he's got enough leave saved up to hang around with Fraser until his retirement date comes up, he clearly hasn't been taking any time off to play. And B, when he says that he had a girlfriend for a while, I'm pretty sure he means he had a girlfriend, for a while during the entire ten years they've been apart. *has a woobie moment for Ray*

Also? I have this picture in my head of the Ray and Fraser in this story looking much the way Callum and Paul do now, and it fills me with glee.
