I thought it was an interesting choice in that episode (which I first got to see courtesy of YOU, btw, when we first met) is that Jim is clothed (a rare occurrence, I will admit) in the fight scene in the ring. I think that was an intentional choice to make him represent civilization in that ring o' circuses.

I will stop snickering over the 'rare occurrence' comment to agree. That's an interesting insight into it and yes, makes a lot of sense. Jim embodied so many roles in that episode; friend, detective, prisoner, fighter and that decency, for want of a better word, that shines through his character never shone brighter.

I have a real fondness for this episode; it's an unusual one and so somber even at the end. I can picture Jim and Simon taking off to get well and truly drunk together a few days later, trying to get the stink of the place off them both and Blair wanting desperately to join them but coming up against that 'not a cop' wall more than ever.

Jim's so upset by everything in this; not in a naive way, but it just strikes so deeply with him, I think; his friend's pointless death, the corruption, the despair.

Might have to watch it again; it's been a while.
