Oh wow!

As usual, everybody else has commented waaaaay before me, and far more eloquently than I could.

I totally loved this - utterly. I sat up till I dread to think what time last night reading, because once started, there was no way to stop. I love your version of Jim, I love the way you describe his senses, and I love your idea of how things might have been when he came back from Peru. Oh hell, I just loved the whole thing from start to finish. *g*
