ack.  just got back from ortho consult.  i have to go in tomorrow for surgery--they're gonna do some voodoo on my finger.

wah.
arrow00: (ts:hurt)
well kids, just got home from the ER after 5 fun-filled hours (some of them strapped to a backboard. and I have to say: since when don't the EMTs take your word for it that you didn't injure your neck?)

see, I tanked the bike hitting a pothole at the bottom of one of our steepish hills. major crash up.  I had to straighten out my own busted finger right after--easier than it sounds since it wasn't hurting yet, just looked wrong and I couldn't feel it and the kanked nature of it squicked me so i just grabbed it and pulled it straight again.  aiii!  I felt like Ranger!Jim for all of ten seconds until the pain hit.

other than the broken finger, the road rash and various mongo bruises and strained muscles, I'm in pretty good shape. but this will put the kibosh on the F/K story I was working on.  one-handed typing sucks!  still, i've got some great fodder for my next ER scene.

my boss is going to kill me--I'm the fourth person with a break to fingers/hand in the last 2 months, and we're a software company.  they pay me to type, goddammit.

signed,
up shit creek

Holy sheet. I am writing a Jim-as-ho AU.

It's all [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt's fault, she made the idea so very appealing to me with her Point of Contact series, which is totally delicious and bent in an entirely different way, but for some reason I can't get over the lovely concept of Jim giving it up for cash.

Looking up the link to Jane's fic made me realize there are 2 WHOLE NEW PARTS I missed! Which brings me to the purpose of my post: can anyone recommend other Jim-as-ho fics for me to sink into once I finish wrting this AU? I'm all ears. Or eyeballs. (Or something.)

It's great to be writing again. I go on these kicks where I'm totally driven interspersed by periods of total vegetation. But I'm only a couple of hours into this fic and I'm already at page five. Wee!

So last night I was talking with a good friend and realized I had subconsciously decided I wasn't going to miss the last ZebraCon, in spite of the fact I really had thought, up to that point, that I just didn't want to go.

How come your mind plays tricks like that? I really was sure I wasn't going, yet here I was the next second buying plane tickets and hotel reservations and stuff.

I blame the internets.

Anyway, I hope some of my dS and Sentinel friends will be there. ZCon is a pretty big con that occurs in Chicago, September 14-16th. It's been around forever but this is supposedly the last one. I think it was originally started to focus on cop-related fandoms, but has expanded since then to include everything. It's a terrifically fun con, it's just that I had grown sort of disenchanted with the fandom side of fandom (I swear that makes more sense than you would think) and was focusing on just reading and writing, but this is an opportunity to see people I might not get a chance to see, otherwise. So.

Stupid subconscious.

Hi kids:

Just spreading the word. Here's a way to ask Paramount to release seasons 2-4
of the Sentinel on DVD, as doc'd by [livejournal.com profile] kayjay206.

It only takes a minute, so do it!

I've been on an h/c reading kick since my illness, and it got me to thinking of the many different types of h/c, and how my particular situation would *not* have made a good h/c plot (oh, alas.)

This led to the following categorizations. Please feel free to add your own, hopefully with Sentinel or dS examples:

  • Stubbed-toe h/c — When a character suffers an injury or illness that is completely common to everyday man and woman, yet the author has chosen to explore the character recovering from a head-cold, for example. (Warning: This type of story can and may involve some Unnecessary Bathing.) more... )

I'm suffering the ravages of choosing a vegan cookie for dessert last night. If vegan is so healthy how come this is the second time I've gotten food-poisoning from a vegan item?

Inquiring minds. Except for mine, because I have been in full hell since 3am and I think I'm going to go ask Ray to kick me out of my misery.

At a certain point, you'd really much rather be in a coma.

Thumper

We had a real nice thumper of an earthquake this morning around 5am. 4.2 on the richter scale, centered across the bay in Oakland.

It woke me from a sound sleep, actually thought I was dreaming it for a second. And since I was dreaming about Ray at the time, well--fun!

Of course, [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds is visiting in Oakland right now. Welcome to California, babe!

I remember reading a fic once where Jim senses a Big One about to hit and calls all the emergency agencies to try to prepare them. Wish I could remember what story that was; I'd love to read it today.

I just got back from dinner with [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds, in which Grilled Octopus was consumed (tentacles and all) and Turtle Vice was discussed, PLUS she ran down the streets of San Francisco yelling "Buttsex!" at the top of her lungs. No seriously.

Admittedly, this is a city where one can do that with impunity.

(And, okay, she really just whispered it. A lot.)

I made her promise to write me pr0n and send me music through the internet tubes. Then she gave me half a donut. Then I rode home.

Too damned bad she lives so flippin' far away. :(

If you're looking for my [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction snippet, Dancing Blind, I had to move it over to the community due to posting rules that I missed thanks to my inherent cluelessness.

Anyway, if we were conversing in comments, my apologies. I've had to make the posting private until the challenge is done.

*headdesk*

Anybody out there? I'm feeling tres desole for some reason.

So I changed the colors on my LJ. I feel like I just bought a new pair of shoes. Are they preeeetty? I hope so. But I have a blister on my heel.

I wish I knew how to put a banner across the top. If anyone is more in-the-know with the whole LJ stylesheets thing and wants to give me pointers, I'd appreciate it. The ironic thing is I code/program for a living, but though I write my own style sheets from scratch, LJ's framework confuses me, so I haven't messed with custom ones. (Yes, I know I should RTFM. Feh.)

*****update: apparently you can't *do* banners with this particular style. Oh, well.

In other news...I just finished a mongo 32K wd Sentinel AU, "Somewhere to Be," which the brilliant and talented [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt is beta'ing for me. I feel guilty for taking her writing time (especially since she is back to writing Point of Contact segments, wee!) but she is one of those very nice people who actually gives back to the community (crazy kid.)

I hope to be posting it next weekend. This is one of the longest pieces I have written so be assured it is utter crappity-crap.

I had a dream that I was with New Jersey (Jeff Goldblum) from Buckaroo Bonzai. We were married (ick? I don't even read het; can't stand the thought) which was odd, too, because it seemed like some kind of arranged thing. And I have no interest in marriage.
More weirdness... )
