dS: icons for grabs

So, when I joined slidellra's C6D Tag Game, I decided to get to work making icons, but then spuffyduds tagged me, and she already has her happy icons, so I wrote her a very silly story instead, but I thought I would offer up the icons anyway. So here they is.

Spuffy gets first dibs, of course, but fair game after that. Credit or no, as you will.
I stole some screenshots from meresy so it's only fair you steal right back.

Bee-utiful. Love the colour correction on #18 - it looks much better. I'm glad you came down the way you did on #11 - you were right to go with that text instead of the other, I think. Oh Fraser. You poor sap.

I'm still not sure about the text but what can you do? Sometimes there is no right decision about things.

These are glorious. I use mostly my own icons, so I'm simply admiring, here, but these are fabulous! #12 is GUH. And "Jealous" took me a minute, but...hee! And "Suprasternal Notch"! They're just all wonderful.

If you mean the harried art student, I am hanging in there by my charcoal-stained fingernails. :) Drawing a human torso (from a plaster cast) and two nude figures (from photos) this week, all female (*yawn*). Actually it's not boring at all, and it is stressful for me, because I want everything to be perfect. But we only draw about 1 male figure to 4 female ones, at best, and I dislike that ratio. I want to study male figures, dammit.

Beyond fanart, I have great ambitions to portray passive, reclining male figures as Odalisques and concubines and self-hating fashion models, and so on. I want to turn the cultural imagery on its ear. Unfortunately, I'll need a lot of technical knowledge and experience and practice before I am able to communicate that social commentary. At present, fanfic (and fanart) will have to do. :)

We're drawing from pretty much ONE male model and about three different female models. All young and stunning, though, which is nice. The guy is a Fraser-type more than a Ray-type, but very cute, and, heh, perky. Read between the lines there. ;) I do, however, have a good library of reference photos that includes more Ray-esque figures, and among those are some porn stars who posed for portraits. *cough* *cough*

You should register a complaint with your instructors! That's gender bias!

I love your odalisque idea. And you should look at Thai art. Every time I go into a Thai restaurant I want to beat the decorators over the head. It would be wonderful to see a portrayal of one of those "gardens of delight" with all male nudes.

And, mmmm, perky male models. :)

If you want, I can try to snapshot some of my porn! If nothing else, there are some awfully nice penises you can try to render. But unfortunately, most the bodies are bulkier fellas...that's my leaning, of course, although Ray is his own category of intense hotness. Did you see the icon I made of just his shoulder? ::meeps::

Any reference photos you want to send my way will be well appreciated. Maybe even used to endow Ray and/or Fraser. :)

I will look at Thai art per your rec. Don't think I've ever seen any of that type.

My instructors aren't biased, by the way. It's just the current reality. Far more women are available to model than men. It's the whole society that's to blame. Men aren't supposed to be the objects of the artist's gaze, right? Or the public's. They're the movers and shakers and we're the objects, so the myth goes. That is exactly what I'd like to question in images. I'm totally drawing Ray as Manet's courtesan or an Odalisque as soon as my skills are up to it. Maybe the Manet should be Fraser. Yeah. Hee!

I just want to do the same subversive thing in art that we're doing in fanfic. :)

I loved her picspam post, yes, indeed! And your icons are still catching my eye and making me stare. And trust me, I've done a lot of staring at Ray's shoulders. As an artist, of course. ;)

For my own icons, I always use my own screencaps, though. I try to use my own screencaps for reference photos as well, unless I don't happen to have the original DVD of whatever. Which I don't have for Whale Music, so...YES, please! Thank you!!!!!! Can't wait.

Paul does have a gorgeous ass, and I have the perfect Fraser pose in mind to display it, suggested by an artsy beefcake photo found on the web. Actually, PG's whole body is just really, really well put together. He's very close to a modern "ideal figure," if any living being can really be that.

Hey there! Well, the story is finally finished. "Through the Looking Glass" is RayK/Fraser and RayK/human!Dief. Yeah, I know. "Huh?" What can I say? It's a kind of supernaural thing.
